Sample Response: Catholic priests refused to allow the Indians to practice their own religion. But the Pueblos refused to abandon their old gods. They continued to keep poisonous snakes, dance their masked dances, and sprinkle sacred corn meal. For punishment, they were whipped and sacred Pueblo objects were destroyed.
