An object start from rest and travelled with a uniform acceleration for 40 seconds reaching a maximum speed of 90 m/s. It maintained this speed for another 10 seconds before breaking and coming to a stop in 12 seconds. (a) Find the acceleration of the object for the first 40 seconds.

Over the first 40 s, the object had an acceleration a such that

90 m/s = a (40 s) → a = (90 m/s) / (40 s) = 2.25 m/s²
