I would have left because he was the greek king of Ithaca and was called to fight in the Trojan war. The kings are the ones that were supposed to be the ones calling the people to the war. They are not supposed to be going to the war. The kings need to be with their people while the army is at war so that his people are safe and provided with things they need.
