When you have two fractions equal to one another, the easiest thing is often to cross multiply. To do this, multiply the top of the left fraction by the bottom of the right fraction, and then multiply the bottom of the left fraction by the top of the right side and put them equal to eachother:

Knowing this, and some algebra, we can solve the question:


(7y+4)/(y+2) =(-4)/(3)

(7y+4)(3)=(y+2)(-4)

21y+12=-4y-8

21y+4y=-8-12

25y=-20

y=-4/5
