Gangu appears to marry Gomti out of pity. The narrator may be convinced.
The story is narrated by his master, who is surprised when Gangu asks to leave his job because he wishes to marry Gomti, a poor woman with two failed marriages behind her. When Gangu and Gomti are married, Gomti disappears. Gangu eventually finds her again and brings her back with a child, which is not his.
