Compare and contrast:

Technology was making everyday worker's jobs easier. The aver American worker was also paid more, and more jobs were available as new industries popped up. The average farmer was not having such a wondrous time. Farming was being taking over by machine such as cotton picking, and suddenly he was making less money, even though he had more mouths to feed due to the rapidly growing population.
