Evaluating a function

In order to find f(-4), we want to evaluate

f(x) = -x - 5

when x = -4, so we just have to replace x by -4:

f(x) = -x - 5

f(-4) = -(-4) - 5

f(-4) = 4 - 5

f(-4) = -1
