y = - (x + 3)^2 + 5 Step 4: Evaluate the function for x = -5

we have the function

y=-(x+3)^2+5

For x=-5

substitute the value of x in the function above and solve for y

so

\begin{gathered} y=-(-5+3)^2+5 \\ y=-(-2)^2+5 \\ y=-4+5 \\ y=1 \end{gathered}

the value of the function is 1
