First we need to know how many gallons the cylinder can hold, to determine this we use the rule of three:

\begin{gathered} 231\text{ cubic inches}\rightarrow1\text{ gallon} \\ 5775\text{ cubic inches}\rightarrow x \end{gathered}

then:

x=(5775\cdot1)/(231)=25

Hence the cylinder can hold 25 gallons of water.

We know that every day it leaks 2 gallons of water, using the rule of three again we have:

\begin{gathered} 1\text{ day}\rightarrow2\text{ gallons} \\ x\rightarrow25\text{ gallons} \end{gathered}

then:

x=(25\cdot1)/(2)=(25)/(2)=12.5

Therefore it will take 12.5 days to fill the cylinider
