m²=81​

Apply square roots both sides


\begin{gathered} \sqrt[]{m^2}=\pm\sqrt[]{81} \\ (m^2)^{((1)/(2))}=\pm(9^2)^{((1)/(2))} \end{gathered}

simplify

m=(+/-)9

are two solutions

because

(-9)^2=81

and

(9)^2=81
