Using the distance formula;


|d|=\sqrt[]{(x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2}

From the points given:

x₁=-1 y₁=-2 x₂=8 y₂=10

substitute the values into the formula;


|d|=\sqrt[]{(8+1)^2+(10+2)^2}
=\sqrt[]{9^2+12^2}
=\sqrt[]{81+144}


=\sqrt[]{225}
=15

The distance is 15 units.
