Let be "d" the distance (in centimeters) between San Francisco and Los Angeles on the map of California.

You know that the actual distance between those two cities is 375 miles and, on the map, you know that 2 centimeters represent 10 actual miles.

Knowing the information shown above, you can set up the following proportion:


(2)/(10)=(d)/(375)

Then, in order to know the distance on the map between San Francisco and Los Angeles, you must solve for "d" by multiplying both sides of the equation by 375:


\begin{gathered} (375)((2)/(10))=((d)/(375))(375) \\ \\ (750)/(10)=d \\ \\ d=75 \end{gathered}

Therefore, the two cities are 75 centimeters apart.
