When both sides of an any quality or multiplied or divided by a negative number the inequality symbol switches from less than 2 greater than or greater than to less than in the inequality is said to be preserved or reserved.

Recall that an inequality symbol is preserved under any addition or subtraction, but it REVERSES (flips) direction when you multiply both sides OR divide both sides by a negative number.

So the greater tahn symbol changes to a less than symbol and vice versa:

a < b whne you multiply (or divide) by for example (-2) negative two becomes:

-2 a > -2 b

It switches form < to > or vice versa (from > to <)
