To find the mean, first, we have to sum all the masses.


\begin{gathered} \Sigma x_i=3.4+4.3+2.4+2.4+4.2+4.3+4.3+3.5 \\ \Sigma x_i=28.8 \end{gathered}

Then, we divide this sum by the total number of masses which is 8.


\bar{x}=(28.8)/(8)=3.6

Hence, the mean mass is 3.6 grams.
