In order to calculate the desk area, let's divide it in two rectangular areas:

A1 = vertical rectangle with dimensions 6 ft and 3 ft

A2 = horizontal rectangle with dimensions 6 ft and 2 ft

So we have:


\begin{gathered} A=A_1+A_2 \\ A=6\cdot3+6\cdot2 \\ A=18+12 \\ A=30\text{ ft2} \end{gathered}

So the desk area is 30 ft².
