Rewriting an expression in its simplest form

In order to find the simplest form of an expression we find the terms with the same unkown values. For the following expression

4x - 3 - 6y + (-22) - 2y + 7

we have that

terms with x: +4x

terms with y: -6y and -2y

numbers: -3, -22 and +7

We combine like terms, that means that we add the terms with the same unkowns:

terms with x: +4x

terms with y: -6y -2y = -8y

numbers: -3 - 22 + 7 = -18

And now, we replace the results in the original equation:

4x - 3 - 6y + (-22) - 2y + 7

= 4x - 8y - 18

Answer: its simplest form is 4x - 8y - 18
