I interpret "percent of the nearest whole number" as the percentage in %.

Then, the probability of choosing a bass player = #of bass players / # total of students in the table (of seventh grade students) = 12/35 = 34%. (in porcentage)

Remember the formula when you choose *only one student*,

P(of choosing a student of a specific kind) = #students of such kind / #total of students in the table in question.

Note: The calculator gives that 12/35 in percentage is 34.28. Rounding to the nearest whole number gives us 34 because the first decimal place (2) is less than 5.
