The reason why embryos of different vertebrate species share those highly marked similarities between them is due to vertebrate species have ancestors in common whose genetic inheritance is showed up at that phases of our primary development. This is possible because of the different enzymes allowing specific DNA fragments to express proteins that allow throughout the growth of the organisms to express these characteristics and at a given point, to differentiate it in each species.
