The windows on a building are proportional to the size of the building. The height of each window is 1.5 feet, and the width is 11 in. If the height of the building is 108 ft, what is the width of the building IN FEET?

When you have two proportional figures (in this case the building and their windows) you have that:

Then, you have:


(11in)/(x)=(1.5ft)/(108ft)

You solve the x:


\begin{gathered} (108ft)11in=1.5ft(x) \\ 1188ft\cdot in=1.5ft\cdot x \\ (1188ft\cdot in)/(1.5ft)=x \\ 792in=x \end{gathered}

You change the inches to feet: (1 ft is equal to 12 inches)


792in\cdot(1ft)/(12in)=66ftThen, the width of the building is 66 feet.
