As given by the question

There are given that the rational function:

y=((x+3)(x-5)(x+7))/((x+1)(x+4))

Now,

In any rational function, discontinuities are caused by the expression in the denominator.

That means, the denominator of the function can not be equal to zero.

Then,

From the denominator of the given function:

\begin{gathered} (x+1)(x+4) \\ x+1=0;\text{ x=-1} \\ x+4=0;\text{ x=-4} \end{gathered}

Hence, the discontinuities happen as x = -1 and x = -4. (option b).
