The Law of segregation states that there is a segregation during the production of the gametes leading to the acquisition on only one copy of the trait from each parent. This law is considered as the law of purity of gametes. The alleles do not mix with each other. They separate and segregate to different gametes. Therefore, each gamete only possess one trait or allele of a gene. There is also a random distribution of the gene copies.
