Answer: x < 18

Explanation:

x - 2 < 16

We eliminate 2 to isolate the variable, x by adding 2 to both sides. -2 + 2 = 0.

x < 18

We can test this because 17 is less than 18. Pretend x = 17

17 < 18✅

Mason subtracted 2, instead of adding 2.
