Autotrophs or primary producers is an organims that use a process called photosynthesis to make their food where they use energy from the sun to convert water from the soild and CO2 from the air into a nutrient called glucose which is a type of sugar.

The first autotrophic bacteria that is very similar to cyanobacteria have been the very first organisms to live on Earth appeared approximately 2 billion years ago.

A consumer is called heterotroph while a producer is called an autotroph.
