4x + 6 = x + 1​

Solving for x:

Subtract x from both sides:

4x + 6 -x = x + 1​ - x

3x + 6 = 1

Subtract 6 from both sides:

3x + 6 - 6 = 1 - 6

3x = -5

Divide both sides by 3:

3x/3 = -5/3

x = -5/3 = -1.667
