A mixture of helium and oxygen gas is expanded from a volume of 90.0L to a volume of 97.0L, while the pressure is held constant at 40.0atm. Calculate the work done on the gas mixture. Round your answer to 2 significant digits, and be sure it has the correct sign (positive or negative).

So,

First remember that the work done can be found if we remember the following equation:


W=P\cdot\Delta V

Where W is the work done, P is the pressure (constant) and ΔV represents the change in the volume. (The substraction between the final volume and the initial volume)

If we replace our values, we got that:


\begin{gathered} W=40atm\cdot(97L-90L) \\ W=40atm\cdot7L \\ W=280J \end{gathered}

The gas is being expanded, the sign of the work done is positive.

The work done is 280J.
