Hello!

x = 5 and y = -4

To find the value of: x + (3y + 1)

\hookrightarrow \text{must plug in the value of each variable into their corresponding positions}

x + (3y + 1) = 5 + (3(-4)+1)=5 + (-12+1)=5-11=-6

Answer: -6

Hope that helps!
