Inside of cell membrane is hydrophobic bc of the fatty acids so large charged polar water soluble hydrophilic molecules cannot readily pass through membrane only small hydrophobic uncharged molecules can pass through so it helps maintain what’s coming in wo regulation and what is coming in w regulation
