What does “beaten out” and “spoken” refer to in the phrase “words whether beaten out or spoken to”

Beaten out would mean, literally “beaten out” as in speaker was bullied into talking, and spoken would be willingly speaking about it. Beaten out and Spoken both represent a literal action, so it would be a verb.
