Formal Operational

Piaget devised a theory of cognitive development in which there are four different stages of learning that children move through. These stages are the Sensorimotor Stage, the Preoperational Stage, the Concrete Operational Stage, and finally the Formal Operational Stage. The Formal Operational Stage is when kids begin to think abstractly, and occurs around age 12 and up.
