we have to get k by itself on one side of the equal sign. To do that we have to get rid of 3. To get rid of 3 we have to do the opposite. The opposite of +3 is -3 so we -3 on both sides. 19 - 3 = 16. So k = 16

k+3=19

-3 -3

k=16
