Answer: Many ethnic Germans or people of german descent lived in America at the time. This doesn't tie into Iraq or Afghanistan because there were barely any ethnic Iraqis or Afghanistanis in America then. People also didn't want war due to ww1 ww2, and vietnam by that time period.
