So when solving these types of problems are goal is to get the variable on one side (x) and the constants on the other. To do this we use inverse operations

5x-3=4x+2

so to get rid of the -3 we add 3

but whatever we do to one side we have to do to the other

so we would add 3 to each side

2+3=5

-3+3 cancels out

Now we have

5x=4x+5

now we want to get rid of the 4x so to do so we subtract 4x from each side

5x-4x=x

4x-4x cancels out

now we have

x=5

so we can conclude that x=5
