Answer: 10 3/4. OR 43/4

Explanation:

we see that there are two lines, one with the total amount (at bottom), and one with two small parts of the line measurement included (top)


we can simply add the two small measurements together and then subtract the total measurement line (15/1/2) to the added amount.


3 1/2 = 3 2/4

(3 1/2 is simplified version, 1 times 2 is 2 and 2 times 2 is 4, so we get 2/4)


3 2/4+ 1 1/4 = 4 3/4

4 3/4 = 19/4
4 times the 4 (from 3/4) is 16, plus the 3 (from 3/4)

and

15 1/2 = 15 2/4 = 62/4

15 times 4 (from 2/4) is 60, plus the 2 (from 2/4)

Now we do 62/4 minus 19/4

DON’T minus the denominator 4!

(Basically is) 62-19=43

Answer: 43/4


you can also divide 43 by 4, to get 10 3/4
