Answer as an improper fraction: 800/9 square inches

Answer as a mixed number: 88 & 8/9 square inches

Answer as a decimal: 88.888... square inches

Work Shown

Let's use the formula

a & b/c = (a*c+b)/c

to convert from a mixed number to improper fraction

6 & 2/3 = (6*3+2)/3

6 & 2/3 = 20/3

The width is 20/3 inches. The length is double that, so it is 40/3 inches.

area = length*width

area = (20/3)*(40/3)

area = 800/9 square inches

Let's convert that to a mixed number.

800/9 = (792 + 8)/9

800/9 = (792/9) + (8/9)

800/9 = 88 + (8/9)

800/9 = 88 & 8/9

We have 88 full square inches of area. Then there's an additional 8/9 of a square inch of extra area.

In terms of a decimal, 800/9 = 88.888... where the 8s repeat forever. It's possible that your calculator will round at some point. So for instance it might show 88.8888888888889
