Answer:

Hope this helps :)

Explanation:

A.) Didn't follow PEMDAS

The student did 4-16 instead of 16/2

B.) The student only squared the 4 rather than squaring the whole expression

C.)

(\sqrt[3]{64} -16/2)(2-4)^(2)=(4-16/2)(2-4)^(2)=(4-8)(2-4)^2=(-4)(-2)^2=(-4)(4)=-16

Part A: in step 2, the student did 4-16 = -12 but the student should have done the 16 / 2 part of the first set of parentheses FIRST because remember order of operations - - - PEMDAS - - - that means that you do DIVISION before you do subtraction.

So step 2 should have been:

(4-8)(2-4)^2

(just do 16/2 = 8 in the first set of parentheses)

Part B:

Note that Step 3 changes to

(4-8)(2-4)^2

Now Step 4, the student did 2-
4^(2). That's not correct. The student should have done the PARENTHESES first (remember, PEMDAS), then do the exponent.

= (-4)(2-4)^2 do the subtraction inside the parentheses FIRST!

= -4(-2)^2 now do the exponent

= -4*4

= -16

Part C:

=\sqrt[3]{64}-16/2) (2-4)^(2) = (4-16/2)(2-4)^(2) = (4-8)(-2)^(2) = -4 * 4 = -16
