23 green and 14 blue marbles

===============

Let the number of green marbles be g and blue marbles be b.

Total number is 37:

  • g + b = 37

There are 9 more green marbles than blue:

  • g = b + 9

Substitute this into the first equation:

  • b + 9 + b = 37
  • 2b + 9 = 37
  • 2b = 28
  • b = 14

Find the number of green marbles by substituting back the value of b:

  • g = 14 + 9
  • g = 23
