the ratio of the ages of father and son at present is 6 : 1. after 5 years, the ratio will become 7 : 2. the present age of the son is :

Father = 30 years

Son = 5 years

Explanation:

Let the present age of father be x and the age of son be y.

According to the question,

  • x:y = 6:1
  • x/y = 6/1
  • x = 6y (eqn(1))

Also given after five years,

  • (x+5)/(y+5) = 7/2

2x + 10 = 7y +35(Cross multiply)

  • 2x - 7y = 25

Put the value of x from eqn 1:

  • 2(6y) - 7y = 25
  • 12y - 7y = 25
  • 5y = 25
  • y = 5

From eqn 1,

  • x = 6y
  • x = 6*5 = 30 years

Hence,the present age of father is 30 years and of son is 5 years.
