When eight times the first number is added to four times the second number the sum is 68. However, the difference between twelve times the first number and seven times the second number is 63. What are the 2 numbers?

Let us assume that two numbers are x and y.
Given, 8x + 4y= 68——1
12x - 7y= 63——2

8x + 4y= 68
x= (68 - 4y)/8

Put x in 1
12[(68-4y)/8] - 7y = 63
12[17/2 -y/2] - 7y= 63
102 - 6y - 7y= 63
13y= 39
y= 3
x= (68 - 4y)/8
= 17/2 - y/2
= 17/2 - 3/2
= 14/2 = 7

Therefore, x= 7 and y= 3
