Answer:

x= apples

y = peaches

Faith walked into a grocery store and bought 10 apples and 8 peaches, for a total cost of $16--->10x+8y=$16

Idil went to the same grocery store and bought 9 apples and 4 peaches, for a total cost of $12---->9x+4y=$12

10x+8y=16

9x+4y=12

we simplify 10x+8y=16 by 2 = 5x+4y=8

5x+4y=8

9x+4y=12

by combination (elimination)

-1(5x+4y)=8)---->-5x-4x=-8

-5x-4y=-8

9x+4y=12

---->4x=4

x=$1

we calculate y:9x+4y=12

9+4y=12

4y=12-9=3

y = 3/4 =$0.75

1 apple costs $1 a peach costs $0.75
