If 5x+4y=23 and 4x+5y=22, then what is the value of (x + y)

Answer:

x=3 and y=2

Explanation:

I plugged in a lot of numbers until it worked out.

5(3) + 4(2) = 15+8 which equals 23

then 4(3) + 5(2) = 12+10 which equals 22.
