A first grader claims that 2 - 4 = 0 because you can't have less than nothing. How do you as a teacher respond ?

howdy!! if i were a teacher, this is how i would respond.

" I see where youre coming from, but in math, we have negative numbers, which show values less than zero. so, when we subtract 4 from 2, its like removing 4, and we end up with a number below zero. "
