What is the equation of the line that passes through the point(4,-7) and has a slope of -3?

Answer: y+7=-3(x-4) or y=-3x-5

So when you got a question like this, DONT USE SLOPE INTERCEPT FORM. Always use point slope form, which is y-y₁=m(x-x₁). Please refer to my work (the attached picture) for more in depth work.

Answer: y + 7 = -3(x-4)

Template Equation : y - y1 = m(x - x1)

y1 represents the y value in the coordinate (-7)
x1 represents x value in the coordinate (4)

M = slope

Thus y - (-7) = y + 7
Because negative times a negative is positive

Then you just put together to get the equation y + 7 = -3(x-4)
