If the length of a rectangular field is 9 feet less than four times its width, and the perimeter is 142 feet.

Perimeter = sum of all sides

length = 4w - 9 (widths)

There are two lengths and widths

2(4w - 9) + 2(w) = 142
8w - 18 + 2w = 142
10w - 18 = 142
10w = 160
w = 16

Length = 4(16) - 9
Length = 64 - 9
Length = 55
