A paper cut in a spiral shape may start rotating when held over a candle flame due to the different rates of expansion and heating along its edges. As one side of the spiral heats up faster than the other, it creates an imbalance in thermal expansion, causing the paper to curl and rotate as it tries to relieve this stress.
