how do i figure out and solve this? i dont even understand the first step. like where did they get 8?? what do i add or subtract?? HELP.

Sorry, if my handwriting is bad I was in a hurry.

But the error that Josh made was when distributing/multiplying -10 and -3. When multiplying two negative numbers the sign basically flips and turns it into a positive number. So, instead of -30 it becomes 30. Then you just solve the rest like in the picture.
