Explanation:

Since this is a graphical problem we have to find the length of the line to calculate the answer.

Let's first calculate AD: (I have attached a sketch below)

We can form a right-angle triangle with dimensions 2 and 1. Now we can work out the distance using Pythagoras' theorem
a^2+b^2=c^2:


c=√(a^2+b^2)\\c=√(1^2+2^2)=√(5)

Therefore the answer to the length is
\sqrt5.

Now if you look closely if we form right-triangle with the rest of the lines to figure out their length, we realise that they are the same dimensions as Line AD.

Therefore the room is a square.

This means to find the area of the room to get the amount of carpet we can do
(\sqrt5)^2 which is simply 5 units² of carpet!
