Answer: 1. 0.278, 2. 0.95, 3. 0.625, 4. 4.75, 5. 4.25, 6. 1.083

Explanation:

There are multiple ways to convert a fraction into a decimal. The simplest way would be just to use a calculator and type the fraction in, and see the decimal output. But if you can't use a calculator, there is a simple way to solve it. It's through using long division.

Let's take
(19)/(20) for example. 20 is the divisor, and 19 is the dividend. The quotient is the result of the divisor divided by the dividend.

To solve this problem, first find how many times 20 can go into the highest place value, in this case 1. It can go in it 0 times, so we put a 0 as our first number in our quotient and subtract 0 from 1 giving us 1.

Next, we club the next highest place value beside the 1, in this case 9. So how many times can 20 so into 19, it can go into it 0 times. So we then put 0 as our next number in the quotient and subtract 0 from 19 and we get 19.

Since we have no more whole numbers, we have to club a decimal place after the 9, and club another 0 after the decimal place. Discounting the decimal place, we have 190 as our next number, and how many times can 20 go into 190, the answer is 9 which is our next number in the quotient (20·9=180). Now we subtract 180 from 190, giving us 10.

From there, we club another 0 to our 10 place giving us 100. We see how many times 20 can go into 100, which is 5. We subtract the 5 from 100 from 100 (20·5=100) and we get 0. We can put the 5 beside the 00.9, and we get 00.95 or 0.95 as our answer. Here is a picture version:

Solved similarly for the other answer

For 1 and 6, for long division stops after the ten thousandths place is over, or 4 place values after the decimal and round our answer to the nearest thousandth.

Hope that helped a lot.

So I see that the problem here are to convert fractions to decimals. This can be simply done by using a calculator, dividing the numerator by the denominator. Now the answers should be rounded to the nearest thousandth if possible, as stated in the instructions. The thousandths place is the third digit to the right of the decimal point. So none of your answers should have more than 3 digits to the right of the decimal point. So to round it, see if the fourth digit (ten thousandths place) is greater than or less than 5.

5/18 = 0.278

19/20 = 0.95

5/8 = 0.625

19/6 = 3.167

17/4 = 4.25

13/12 = 1.083
