The first step is to find the LCD, or least common denominator of these two numbers. We can do this by laying out the factors of both denominators until we find a match.

3 - 3, 6, 9

9 - 9

We found a match! Both 3 and 9 share a common denominator of 9, which is the common denominator between 3 and 9 that has the least value. Now, we have to convert the fractions.

2/3 = 6/9

2/9 = 2/9

Now that we finished this step, in order to solve the main equation, we add 6/9 and 2/9 to get 8/9. 8/9 is your answer.
