Why didn’t Beowulf kill Grendel’s mother when she came to Herot Hall?

Answer and Explanation: Beowulf and his men were unable to stop Grendel's mother from killing Hrothgar's closest friends because he and his men were not in Heorot when it happened. In the poem, it states, "'... Nor was Beowulf there;/ another house had been held apart,/ after giving of gold, for the Geat renowned.
