The sun

Producers can only photosynthesise with the presence of sunlight. And with sunlight, producers will be able to have chemical potential energy stored within in which will be transferred to primary consumers when consuming producers. The same happens with secondary consumers and tertiary consumers but they receive less energy each time.

The ultimate source of energy for the entire food web is the sun. Sunlight serves as the primary source of energy for all life on Earth. Through the process of photosynthesis, primary producers (such as plants, algae, and some bacteria) utilize sunlight, along with carbon dioxide and water, to convert light energy into chemical energy in the form of glucose. This process allows them to harvest the energy from the sun and convert it into chemical compounds that support the growth and survival of higher-level consumers in the food web.
